The Cave of Dreams
By Sherian Xavier
As I sunk into the depth of sleep,
I found myself walking
Unfamiliar halls,
Trying to grasp the space,
In which I find myself.
As I moved, my surroundings
Became more familiar,
I embraced the path,
Questioning neither place nor time,
My journey began.
As I sojourned I encountered people
Who had longed since passed,
I have conversed with people,
I've never met, and still others,
From my everyday life.
I have been to places I've never read about,
And cities no architect has designed, I have walked
With happiness, sadness, degradation,
I was given words of wisdom, medicine, for my
Ailments in life,
I've met my forefathers who dressed me,
In the finest clothes, and have taught me the
Ways of my people, I have also met my lovers,
Some I've known and others I have never met,
In my wakings I have recognized
some of myencounters, and I give thanks for the blessings
Knowing it was revealed to me in the dream cave.
I Wish I Was
I
A bird so I could fly
High above the mountains,
And view the Earth,
Thousands of miles high,
I wish I was.
I wish I was
The wind,
Traveling at will,
Through the forest,
The cities, villages and towns.
Along the beaches on a cool spring night,
Wrapping around lovers trying to keep warm.
I wish I was.
I wish I was
The rain in early spring.
Washing away the spoils of winter,
And renewing the earth once again.
With the touch of God's hand,
Beauty is restored to the land.
I wish I was.
The Storm
As the sky fades to black,
And the wind begins to speak,
Mother nature whips the earth,
With her lightning rod.
She's called the Storm.
She cries for hours,
Her tears beating down on earth,
It seems that there is no end in sight,
Drenching everything in her way,
The earth refuses her tears.
In her anger we run for cover,
Trying to escape her wrath,
We are at her mercy,
Waiting for her anger to subside
She rages on.
Men fear her at sea,
She is respected on land,
Consulted before flight,
She refuses to be tamed,
She is the Storm.
